Let’s define my name “Thrifty Tilda”. Tilda is my given name, and “thrifty” – well I do love a good bargain when I shop, so my sister dubbed me “Thrifty Tilda”, when I was fifteen and it’s stuck.
Which is all a bit ironic when I point out to you that “Tilda” is a shortened version of “Matilda” – in my books this is a bargain on letters. Costs less to have Tilda etched on a photo frame.
But now I’m fed up with being called “Thrifty Tilda”. But I don’t fancy being called “Matilda” – what kind of name is that. In mum’s “Name Your Baby” book – Matilda means “Mighty Battle Maiden”. What Guy could live with that! Probably why Great Aunt Matilda never married.
Now Great Aunt Matilda (bless her), has passed away at the ancient age of 93, and she’s left me all her money so that I don’t have to be thrifty anymore!!
But that puts me in a dilemma – what shall I call m'self now? …..
………… Milly Tilly?
